PATS (Paying Attention to Self) GROUP FACILITATOR TRAINING COURSE

The Bouverie Centre would like to inform you that limited places are still available for the following training:

PATS (Paying Attention to Self) GROUP FACILITATOR TRAINING COURSE

PATS is a group peer support program for young people (12 – 18 years of age) who have a parent who has a mental illness.  It is an early intervention program aiming to prevent the development of mental health difficulties, reduce stigma and to provide opportunities for social connectedness and access to information.

PATS involves an 8 week group program that includes activities to increase young peoples knowledge of mental health and illness, improve help seeking behaviour, connect to their peers, social activities and leadership skills.   The program is facilitated by a health professional and a peer leader. 

The facilitators will provide a comprehensive training on the Paying Attention to Self Program; research and the process in facilitating this training in accordance with the model originally developed by the Centre for Adolescent Health and evaluated by Murdoch Institute.

Learning outcomes:

A.       To become familiar with the PATS  model of peer support

B.       Knowledge and skills on developing tools to facilitate a program

C.        To become familiar on the model of practice in order to conduct a PATS program.

The training will also provide a manual which consists of, research, referral and intake forms, session plans and evaluation in order to successfully run the PATS program.  

Who Should Attend:

Workers in the mental health, community, youth or education sector who are interested in and/or have the capacity to implement this program in their local area.
