Communication access can be interpreted as social access, and brings into focus the interpersonal aspect of access where communication partners everywhere play a role in making the environment communication accessible for people who may not use speech, or whose speech is difficult to understand. We see communication access as sitting beside physical access, information access, visual access, auditory access and deaf access, and the endorsement of these groups is critical to our venture.

We are now ready to develop Communication Access Promotion Packs, Communication Access Checklist Training workshops, and to work towards the public launch of the symbol.

For more information, contact Melinda Smith, Community Development Worker or Barbara Solarsh, Project Leader on phone 9843 2000 or email crc@scopevic.org.au.
