EOI - Single Session Symposium 2012 - Bouverie Centre
Expression of Interest
The Inaugural International Single Session Therapy Research and Practice Network Symposium will be held in Melbourne, Australia
Wednesday (evening) 21st. - Friday 23rd. March 2012
Single Session Therapy: Making the most of every encounter
www.latrobe.edu.au/bouverie/SST
Single Session Therapy is based on three research findings, which are remarkably consistent across presenting problems, services and the world:
- 1. The most common number of sessions clients elect to attend is one!
- 2. The majority of clients report this one session has been beneficial
- 3. It is difficult, if not impossible, to assess which clients will attend beyond the first session
Accepting these findings leads to innovative approaches to service delivery that have become known as Single Session Therapy or Single Session Work. These approaches typically place high value on client directed, responsive work which is focussed, energetic and ‘cuts to the chase'.
Be part of an exciting and rewarding network of practitioners and researchers interested in the possibilities inherent in a Single Session approach to therapeutic service provision.
A number of initiatives are planned, including:
•Ø A web-based network which will include articles, news, resources and important co-researching invitations
•Ø A special edition of the Australian and New Zealand Journal of Family Therapy, due for publication in December, 2011-01-06
•Ø A book to be co-edited by Moshe Talmon and The Bouverie Centre
•Ø Biennial meetings held in different locations, with the opportunity to connect face-to-face with international SST practitioners: the inaugural meeting to be held in Melbourne, Australia in March 22-23, 2012
Join us for two evenings and two days launching an international network of practitioners and researchers discussing the latest developments of Single Session Therapy, including: clinical dilemmas, debates, innovative implementation strategies, specific SST sensitivities in a range of complex client groups and services, ground breaking research and a range of clinical and teaching resources. A stimulating creative and innovative program, with many opportunities for group discussion, will be enhanced by a ‘retreat' experience, in which participants will have the opportunity to stay overnight in a delightful environment, and indulge in some restorative down time as well as plenty of fun. The famous Melbourne Comedy Festival will be running in parallel to the symposium and other great natural and cultural attractions will be listed on the website shortly. We look forward to seeing you in Autumnal Melbourne.
