This 1-day seminar will address the issue of 'International Human Rights - implications for local policy and every-day practice in the disability service system.' This will include discussion of issues concerning choice, self-determination, consent and the use of restrictive interventions in behaviour support.
The day will include scholarly input from Michael Perlin and then an opportunity to discuss local issues and implications. It is intended that the day will conclude with the development of an ‘action plan' to progress research and policy development in Victoria that will inform and enhance practice in the areas of direct support, health care, and the law.
Guest speaker is Professor Michael Perlin, Director of the International Mental Disability Law Reform Project and Director of the Online Mental Disability Law Program at the New York Law School.
